How Dropbox storage works
Understand Dropbox storage, syncing, and online-only files
People often mix up Dropbox storage and the space on their own computer. Let me clear that up for you.
Drop a file into Dropbox and it uploads to your account.
Once it syncs, the latest version is available on your connected devices and at dropbox.com. Your plan sets the limit and the files stored on your account uses that space. Shared folders you join and files collected through file requests can count too. That means your own files, any shared folders you join, and files people send through file requests all count towards it.
Wanna see where it's all going? On dropbox.com, open your account settings and check the storage bar. It shows what's used and what's left.
Low on computer space? Set files to online only. They still count towards your Dropbox storage but use very little hard drive space until you open them. Hopefully, that gives you a better understanding of how Dropbox storage works. If this helped, share this with someone who needs it.
